Tirupati is a city in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh .

Tirupati is located in the Chittoor district on the Swarnamukhi River, 90 km from the east coast of India. The city has been a municipal corporation since March 2007 . It had 287,482 inhabitants at the 2011 census. Tirupati is also known as an educational center. The Sri Venkateswara University is located in Tirupati.

In the mountains 10 km northwest of the city is the Tirumala Tirupati temple complex .
