The Todd Pacific Shipyards is a shipyard company based in Seattle , Washington .

history

In 1916, the William Todd Company acquired the Robins Dry Dock & Repair Company from Erie Basin , Brooklyn , the Tietjen & Long Dry Dock Company from Hoboken, New Jersey , and the Seattle Construction & Dry Dock Company . At the beginning Todd mainly built submarines for the Electric Boat .

The company's shipyards reached their peak during World War II , when construction and repairs were carried out at eleven locations in the USA. The Seattle shipyard alone completed 126 warships for the United States Navy in three years. After the war ended and defense budgets melted, Todd downsized to seven locations.

In the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s the company built ships of the Charles F. Adams-class , Leahy-class , Knox-class and Oliver-Hazard-Perry-class , the latter also for the Royal Australian Navy . Ferries were also built for Washington State Ferries . After the number of orders over the 1980s, the company went bankrupt in 1987. Until 1990 only the shipyard in Seattle remained, which builds, overhauls and repairs ships for the United States Coast Guard and for companies.

Since 2000, Todd has been involved in the overhaul of several classes of warship stationed in Puget Sound , including Nimitz-class aircraft carriers . The shipyard is also involved in the conversion of the Ohio class to SSGN , again with Electric Boat.

The company has been part of Vigor Industrial since 2011 .
