Career

In 1983 he took part in World Cup competitions for the first time. He was able to place three times in the top ten and narrowly missed the podium in fourth in Gstaad, Switzerland . This season he was also able to become GDR master on the large hill for the first time. In the following season he was able to confirm the good results and repeated his success at the national championships. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1984 he won the team silver medal with the GDR team. In 1985 he became the GDR master of the normal hill.

In front of a home crowd in Oberwiesenthal, he celebrated his first World Cup victory in 1986. Findeisen had his most successful season in 1986/1987 when he finished third behind Ernst Vettori and Vegard Opaas in the Four Hills Tournament . In third place, he was able to fight for his first podium of the season in the jumping in Garmisch-Partenkirchen . A short time later he jumped to his second World Cup success in Štrbské Pleso in Czechoslovakia . In the overall World Cup he finished twelfth this season.

In the following years he could no longer build on the good performance and ended his active career in 1990. Since then, Ulf Findeisen has been working as a ski jumping trainer in his hometown of Zschopau, where he looked after young German jumper Erik Simon, among others .
