Ulf Leo Sommer (born August 26, 1970 in Jena ) is a German music producer and composer . He was best known for his work on the complete works of the Rosenstolz duo . With his compositions and productions of hits for Rosenstolz, the No Angels , 2Raumwohnung , Sarah Connor , Helene Fischer and the Bibi & Tina soundtracks, he is one of the most successful German songwriters and producers today.

Rose pride

Ulf Leo Sommer met his musical partner Peter Plate in 1990 in Braunschweig. At first the two tried to make music as a duo, but this was unsuccessful. In the same year Peter Plate met the singer AnNa R and they founded the Duo Rosenstolz . Since, according to Sommer, "it's not my passion at all to go on stage", he kept himself in the background as a lyricist and composer. Until the band took an indefinite hiatus in 2012, twelve studio albums were released, which were awarded numerous gold and platinum awards.

Further career as a composer, lyricist and producer

In 2004 he produced, wrote and composed together with Plate Helden Wie Wir for Jasmin Wagner , in 2005 Herz einer Kämpfers for Patricia Kaas and for the duo 2Raumwohnung the singles 36 Grad , Besser Geht's nicht and Rette Mich Später . In 2009 he composed with Plate Melanie C's version of Liebe ist alles , Let There Be Love . On April 5, 2013, his first solo album, Schüchtern ist mein Glück , was released in collaboration with Plate . The following year, Sommer worked on various projects with Daniel Faust and Peter Plate. They provided the music for the children's film Bibi and Tina , which premiered in spring 2014 under the direction of Detlev Buck . There was also a new edition of the play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare as a musical , which premiered on August 16, 2014 in Kiel. The text was provided by a translation by Daniel Karasek .

Furthermore, Ulf Leo Sommer and Peter Plate provided the lyrics for the songs Our Day and In These Nights from the album Farbenspiel by Helene Fischer . The album has now sold over 2.2 million times. In 2014, Sommer wrote the soundtrack for the movie Coming In by director Marco Kreuzpaintner with Peter Plate and Daniel Faust . The composer trio was supported by the singer Maxine Kazis and Chris Schummert, known from the 2013 season of The Voice of Germany . In addition, together with his colleagues, Sommer composed the music for the film Bibi and Tina - Vollhexxt , which is the follow-up to the first film Bibi and Tina .

In July 2014 Ulf Leo Sommer, Peter Plate and Daniel Faust started to support the German artist Sarah Connor with the songwriting for her next album. The reason for this was Sarah Connors' wish to record a German-language album. The collaboration, which was initially only planned for a few songs, quickly showed great potential and so it came about that Sommer and his team were involved in ten tracks on the album Mutterssprache , which was released in May 2015 . Immediately after its release, the album entered the official German charts at number 1 and quickly reached platinum status. It has now sold over a million times. The corresponding first single, Wie schön du bist , also rose straight to the top of the charts and achieved gold status.

Sommer, Plate and Faust wrote the song "Meine Kleine" with the singer Annett Louisan , which she sang live for the first time in the third season of the television program " Sing mein Song ".

In the summer of 2015, filming began for the third film in the series, Bibi & Tina: Girls against Boys . Ulf Leo Sommer, Peter Plate and Daniel Faust also wrote the film songs and the soundtrack for this sequel . At the beginning of 2016, the idea arose to create a musical for the Bibi & Tina films . Sommer and Plate developed the script for Bibi & Tina - the big show and, in collaboration with Daniel Faust, embed the music from the Bibi & Tina films . The musical will premiere on December 26, 2016 in Hanover.

  • 2raumwohnung : Ulf Leo Sommer and Peter Plate wrote the hits Besser geht's nicht , Rette mich later and 36 degrees (1x gold, awarded 2007) together with the German band 2raumwohnung .
  • No Angels : Summer and Peter Plate developed along the original arrangement for the hit Daylight in Your Eyes (1 × platinum, awarded in 2001) of the group No Angels and produced the single There Must be an Angel (1 x Gold, awarded 2007).
  • Tiger Taps : For the comic character "Tiger Taps", Sommer wrote the children's song Because we are friends with Plate.
  • Jimmy Somerville : Sommer and Plate helped Jimmy Somerville produce his album Home Again.
  • Gregory Lemarchal : The collaboration between Sommer, Plate and Grégory Lemarchal resulted in the French version Je deviens moi of the Rosenstolz title Love is everything . Je deviens moi became the title track of Gregory Lemarchal's album.
  • Patricia Kaas : Sommer wrote the hit Herz einer Kämpfers for the French chanson singer Patricia Kaas together with his colleague Peter Plate . Kaas published this on her album Toute la musique .
  • Helene Fischer : Peter Plate and Ulf Leo Sommer provided the lyrics for the songs Our Day and In These Nights by Helene Fischer .
  • Romeo & Juliet : Together with Peter Plate, Daniel Faust and Carolina Bigge, Ulf Leo Sommer wrote the music for the musical Romeo & Juliet, newly performed and interpreted by Daniel Karasek
