Ulrich Hochschild

Ulrich Hochschild (born April 11, 1949 in Karlsruhe ) is a former German diplomat . He was the German ambassador to Benin , Burkina Faso and Madagascar .

Life

Ulrich Hochschild graduated from the Markgrafen-Gymnasium in Karlsruhe- Durlach in 1967 and then studied history , political science and French for teaching at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg and the University of Provence Aix-Marseille I in Aix-en-Provence . From 1974 to 1978 he was a grammar school teacher at the Goethe grammar school in Karlsruhe and at the grammar school in Wörth am Rhein with a two-year break to prepare for his dissertation. He did his doctorate in 1981 at the University of Heidelberg under the historian Werner Conze on the subject of social democracy and the League of Nations . From 1980 to 1982 he completed a preparatory service for the higher foreign service.

Foreign service

From 1982 to 1984 Ulrich Hochschild worked for the Foreign Office , from 1984 to 1988 for the Consulate General in New York City and from 1988 to 1991 for the German Embassy in Paris (until July 1990 consultant for the international exchange of officials). From 1991 to 1993 he was the German ambassador in Cotonou , Benin. From there he moved to the Rhineland-Palatinate State Chancellery in Mainz , where he worked from 1993 to 1995. From 1995 to 1998 he was again at the Foreign Office, from 1998 to 1999 at the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) in Sarajevo , again for a short time in 1999 at the Foreign Office and from 1999 to 2002 at the Permanent Mission to the Western European Union (WEU) in Brussels , first as deputy of the permanent representative Rolf Hofstetter and then as permanent representative.
