Ulrich Kleist

Ulrich Erasmus Heinrich Ewald Oskar Kleist (born September 14, 1866 in Falkenburg , † after 1917 ) was a German poet , writer and educator .

Life

Kleist was born in the Pomeranian town of Falkenburg as the son of the town's mayor of the same name and attended grammar school in Belgard (today: Białogard ), where his father also assumed this position from 1872 to 1884. Kleist came from the old noble family von Kleist , but his ancestors had already given up the title of nobility. From 1886 and 1888 he finally studied history, geography, German studies and ancient languages in Greifswald and then in Halle (Saale) , where he also completed his habilitation in 1892.

Then he worked from 1892 as a private tutor and educator in Elsterwerda . He later lived in Leopoldshall near Staßfurt . From 1894 to 1903 he worked, among other things, as director of higher private schools in Lilienthal , Norderney and Templin . In 1905 he passed the exam as a senior teacher and, after his seminar year at the Francke Foundations in Halle, worked in this role from 1907 at the municipal high school in Waldenburg in Silesia (today: Wałbrzych ) and from 1910 in Hanover , Lower Saxony . Around 1917 he lived on the North Sea island of Norderney.
