Ulrich "Uli" Roth (born February 15, 1962 in Heidelberg ) is a former German handball player .

Career

Handball

Ulrich Roth started playing handball in his youth together with his twin brother Michael in Leutershausen an der Bergstrasse at SG Leutershausen , for which he later played in the 2nd handball league. In 1982 he moved to the first division club MTSV Schwabing , with whom he was runner- up in the 1985/86 season and won the DHB Cup in 1986 . From 1987 to 1990, the 1.96 meter tall circle runner played at TV Großwallstadt , with which he again won the DHB Cup in 1989 and became German champion in 1990 . Then he went back to SG Leutershausen, which had meanwhile been promoted to the first division, with which he became runner-up in 1992 .

Ulrich Roth became vice world champion in 1983 with the junior national team. For the German men's national handball team , he played 151 international matches , in which he threw 290 goals. He participated in the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles , where he won a silver medal, and in the 1986 World Cup .

From 1997 to 2017 Ulrich Roth was the manager of the music group Pur . He was 2nd chairman of the SG Leutershausen and is currently the sporting director and marketing chief of the Spielbetriebs-GmbH of the first team of the SG Leutershausen.

Others

Uli Roth's father Oskar Roth took part in four basketball championships as a 63-time national basketball player , won nine German basketball championships (3 times with the Heidelberger Turnerbund , 6 times with the USC Heidelberg ), and became German runner-up in 1966 as a handball player with SG Leutershausen.

In 2009 Ulrich Roth and his brother Michael fell ill with prostate cancer almost simultaneously . They dealt with the illness in the book Our Life - Our Illness .
