The University of Paris-Saclay ( French Université Paris-Saclay , UPS) is a technical college and university in Saclay , France, founded in 2014 . UPS aims to be one of the top 10 top universities in the world . To this end, 19 research and educational institutions, which are spatially very fragmented, were brought under the common roof of the Université Paris-Saclay. These include institutions of international standing such as CEA , École polytechnique , HEC , CNRS and the two universitiesParis-South and Versailles-Saint-Quentin .

There are high-tech companies in close proximity to the new university, so an exchange similar to that achieved at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Harvard University and similar institutions in the USA is expected . This level is targeted for 2020. France wants to catch up with the leading nations after several years of bad ratings in the university rankings. According to current estimates, UPS should collect up to 15% of the available French research budget.

history

The plans for the transformation of the industrial and research center on a plateau about 30 km southwest of Paris were developed during the reign of Nicolas Sarkozy . Construction of the first building began in 2008. In 2013, construction activity intensified to enable a start in 2015. After a bumpy start in 2015, the French accounting supervisory authority criticized the inadequate organizational standard for the planned investments of 5.3 billion euros in 2017. According to the audit, the lack of strategic coordination and efficient administration means that the target will not be achieved. As early as 2016, reports became known that the insistence of the merged institutions on their own identity was torpedoing the creation of the super university.
