Untermeitingen

Untermeitingen is a municipality in the Swabian district of Augsburg , the seat of the administrative community Lechfeld and a district .

Community structure

The municipality has three officially named municipal parts (the type of settlement is indicated in brackets ):

• Lagerlechfeld , southern part (settlement)
• South camp Lechfeld (camp)
• Untermeitingen ( parish village )

All parts of the community and Klosterlechfeld are in the Untermeitingen district.

history

The oldest and largest landlord since the 10th century was the bishopric of Augsburg , which was endowed with the most important rights such as the village court and Ehaft . The Hochstift often passed this on as a fiefdom. Since the 14th century, in addition to the Augsburg patricians, the Gollenhofer family were also wealthy in Untermeitingen under episcopal fiefdom. The castle estate belonged to the Augsburg line of the Imhoff family from 1544 to 1871 . Then it was bought by Konrad Rieder, whose descendants still own it.

Since the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss of 1803 the place belongs to Bavaria. In the course of the administrative reforms in Bavaria , today's municipality was created with the municipal edict of 1818 .

Population development

Between 1988 and 2018 the municipality grew from 4,028 to 6,958 by 2930 inhabitants or 72.7% - the second highest percentage increase in the district in the period mentioned after the neighboring municipality of Graben.

Since May 1, 2020, the municipal council has been composed as follows:

• CSU : 9 seats
• Free electoral association : 5 seats
• Greens : 3 seats
• Alliance Lechfeld: 2 seats
• FDP : 1 seat

Simon Schropp has been the mayor of Untermeitingen since 2014, and in 2020 he was confirmed in office with 61.8% of the votes. His predecessor was Georg Klaußner (CSU) (1978-2014).
