The Vasalunds IF is a Swedish football club in Solna . The team played for several years in the second-highest division and failed several times in the late 1980s and early 1990s only narrowly on promotion to the Allsvenskan . Between 2003 and 2007 the club took on as Vasalund / Essinge IF .
history
Vasalunds IF was founded on February 1, 1934. Initially, the club was overshadowed by local rivals AIK and Hagalunds IS , so that the club's first great talent, Börje Leander , became a national player via his move to AIK. Nevertheless, the club began its ascent at the end of the 1930s and made it through from the ninth division to the third highest division, Division 3 Östsvenska Södra , between 1937 and 1942 . The team established itself there before the first leap into the second division in 1957 . As third from bottom, the club missed relegation and had to relegate with IFK Bofors and Surahammars IF . As a result, the team crashed into the fifth division.
In 1974 Vasalunds IF managed to return to the third division. After a fourth place in the first year, the team qualified as the season winner for the promotion games the following year. After two wins and one defeat in the duels with Alvesta GoIF , Karlstads BIK and Degerfors IF , they returned to the second division in second place. After it was initially against relegation, the team established itself in the midfield of the league at the beginning of the 1980s.
In 1989 she only narrowly missed promotion to the Allsvenskan when she finished the season on point and goal ratio equal with season winner Hammarby IF , but had to be satisfied with the runner-up due to the fewer six goals scored. After Vasalunds IF could play for two years in the front area of the second division, the slump followed. In 1996 the class could just be kept, the following year the club was at the center of an affair that went down in the history of Swedish football under the name "Vasalundsfallet". The club had violated the limit on the number of foreign players several times during the season and was thus confronted with game conversions at the end of the season. While this had little effect on Vasalunds IF, as the club had already ended the season on a relegation zone (instead of five season victories, two were now considered) and were now relegated to the third division as bottom of the table, Spårvägens FF slipped from tenth place, a non- relegation zone one of the three relegation places. Lira Luleå BK and Enköpings SK moved up and managed to stay up.
In the season 2000 Vasalunds IF occupied only one relegation place in the third division and had to admit defeat in the playoffs Nyköpings BIS . In the second year, the season winner returned to the third division. Before the start of the 2003 season, the third division team Essinge International FC joined the club, which subsequently took on the name Vasalund / Essinge IF .
