Veit Hübner (born October 10, 1968 in Stuttgart ) is a German double bass player and composer who has made a name for himself in the field of jazz .

Live and act

Hübner attended the Spohn-Gymnasium Ravensburg and from 1990 to 1996 studied classical double bass with Ullrich Lau and jazz bass with Thomas Stabenow at the Stuttgart University of Music and Performing Arts . In 1996/97 he continued his studies at the New York New School (among others with Marc Johnson , Eddie Gomez , Reggie Workman and Richie Beirach ), then followed up with postgraduate studies with Wolfgang Güttler at the Karlsruhe University of Music until 1999 .

With the world music and comedy group Tango Five , he and Bernd Ruf , Bobbi Fischer and his brother Gregor Hübner have had numerous international appearances since 1985, including on radio and television. He continued to work with Nana Mouskouri , Giora Feidman and Frank Kroll and also performed as an interpreter of classical music (including as a soloist in Atlantis by Péter Eötvös , but also in works by Dragonetti and Bottesini, as well as at the Schwetzingen SWR Festival and the Donaueschinger Musiktage with the radio symphony orchestra Stuttgart and the Stuttgart Philharmonic , with whom he also performed his own work Metamorphosis for jazz bass and large orchestra in 2001 ). He also played in his brother's ensemble with Richie Beirach and appeared with Randy Brecker , Charlie Mariano , Jens Thomas and Christof Lauer .

Current projects

Veit Hübner is co-founder and artistic director of the Einhalden Festival. He is a member of the Berta Epple ensemble , the gypsy music formation Foaie Verde , the Latin jazz band Salsa Fuerte and the Tales in Tones Trio , which performs with jazz trumpeter Joo Kraus and singer Malia , among others .

Prizes and awards

In 1989, Huebner won first prize at Jugend jazzt and a special prize from Südwestfunk with the Bel Art Trio . In 1992 he received the Baden-Württemberg Cabaret Prize with the Tango Five Ensemble ; In 1993 the culture award of the cities of Ravensburg and Weingarten followed . In 1999 he won a prize at the International Jazz Double Bass Competition in Cap Breton . In 2003 he was awarded the Baden-Württemberg Jazz Prize.
