The Verkehrsgesellschaft der Stadt Velbert mbH (VGV) is the transport service provider for local public transport in Velbert . The company was founded in 1991 and was originally only responsible for parking space management in Velbert. In mid-1996 public transport was added to the area of responsibility. In 1998 the VGV joined the Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Ruhr (VRR). The VGV operates a total of seven bus routes, two urban and five regional routes. All regional lines are operated under joint concessions, four with WSW mobil GmbH and one with Ruhrbahn and Verkehrsgesellschaft Ennepe-Ruhr mbH . Since VGV itself only has four employees, it purchases all of its mileage from third-party or affiliated transport companies . VGV also operates two parking garages and has an 80% stake in another.
