Fourth Norwegian Antarctic Expedition

The Norwegian Antarctic Expedition 1968–1969 (NorAE 1968–1969) was a research trip to the Antarctic funded by the Norwegian Polar Institute . The goals of the expedition were the mapping and geological and glaciological investigations of the Kraulberge ( Norwegian Vestfjella ) in the western Queen Maud Land .

The expedition team consisted of the geologist and expedition leader Thore Schanke Winsnes (* 1922), the geologist Audun Hjelle, the glaciologist Torbjørn Lunde, the topographer Dag Norberg, the geodesist Ola Steine ​​and the radio operator Kåre M. Bratlien. The expedition started on August 22, 1968 at McMurdo Station , from where the participants were flown to the target area by the United States Navy . Investigations in the target area began after the Norway I base camp was established . The expedition ended on January 20, 1969 when the participants were transported back to McMurdo station.
