Vila Maumeta (sometimes just Vila or Maumeta , also Atauro Vila ) is one of the five sucos on the East Timorese island of Atauro ( municipality of Dili ). A possible alternative name for Vila Maumeta is Toro .

The Suco is located in the southeast of the island of Atauro on the coast of the Strait of Wetar . In the north is the Suco Beloi , to the west and south of the Suco Maquili. In the Suco are the places Vila ( Atauro Vila ), Eclae and Ilitecaraquia ( Iliticaria ).

Before the 2015 regional reform, Vila Maumeta had an area of ​​4.17 km². Now it is 2.98 km² after areas were given to Maquili.

In the Suco there are the three Aldeias Eclae , Ilimanu ( Dadu'a for "Vogelberg") and Ilitecaraquia .

Residents

1826 inhabitants (2015) live in the Suco, 957 of them men and 869 women. The population density is 612.0 inhabitants / km². There are 301 households in the Suco.

Almost 87% of the population name Tetum Prasa as their mother tongue. This makes Vila Maumeta the only Sudo Atauros in which no dialect of Wetar ( also Atauru or Adabe ) is spoken by the majority of the population. Only minorities speak the Wetard dialects Resuk , Raklungu , Rahesuk or Dadu'a.

Buildings and infrastructure

The Suco is home to the Sucos primary school, Escola Primaria No. 1 Maumeta . There is also a preparatory secondary school and secondary school, a helipad, a police station, a community health center and a small port. In the main street there are some small shops for daily needs as well as the small Catholic church of the village. The much larger Protestant church is in a new, parallel street, on which numerous new single-family houses have also been built.

politics

In the 2004/2005 elections , Faustino Gomes de Sousa was elected Chefe de Suco. In the 2009 elections , Augostu Barbosa won . Filipe Andreas Excapenaques Ximenes followed in the 2016 elections .
