Villa on the amber lake
The Villa am Bernsteinsee , also known as Biermannsche Villa, is an upper-class house built in 1896 near Bitterfeld am Bernsteinsee , Berliner Straße 12. The former factory owner's villa today belongs to the Kreissparkasse Anhalt-Bitterfeld , is a listed building and is used as a hotel and restaurant .

The building is located in the Goitzsche cultural landscape at the tip of the southeastern tip of the Große Mühle area, which protrudes into the Großer See.
Architectural style
The villa is a building from the historicist era and is predominantly influenced by the neo-renaissance style. But there are also elements of the neo-Gothic style . The inner walls were partially decorated with an Art Nouveau fruit frieze.
Usage history
The house was built for the Jeßnitz factory owner Biermann and was used by the Biermann family as a representative property for residential purposes until the end of the Second World War . In the time of the GDR the building became public property . It served as a residence for up to ten families. After 1990 the paper mill next to the villa was closed. The building then stood empty for a long time. It fell into disrepair and was badly damaged by vandalism and two fires.
Redevelopment
Despite the lignite mining in the immediate vicinity, the building was structurally unchanged. In the course of the renaturation of the remaining open pit holes , the original river bed was flooded again and a lake landscape was created. The villa is right on the shore. In 1999, the Kreissparkasse Anhalt-Bitterfeld acquired the building and had extensive renovation measures carried out from 2004 , the costs amounted to around two million euros. On April 30, 2005, the villa was presented to the public for the first time with a family day.
