Villanova University is a private Catholic university in the United States . It is located in the US state of Pennsylvania in Villanova near Philadelphia .
It is named after St. Thomas von Villanova . It is the oldest Catholic university in Pennsylvania. The school was founded in 1842 by the Augustinian order and the historical traces go back to the Saint Augustine's Church in Philadelphia, which was built by the brothers of the order in 1796 and the affiliated parish school Saint Augustine's Academy , founded in 1811.
The university has 9,535 students and 545 professors and is the largest Catholic university in Pennsylvania.
