The Vilzsee is located in the Mecklenburg Lake District 6.8 kilometers south of Mirow in the south of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . The Vilzsee is the southeasternmost lake in the chain of lakes south of Mirow consisting of Zotzensee , Mössensee , Vilzsee, Mirower Adlersee , Zethner See , Schwarzer See and Fehrlingsee .
Its east-west extension including Mirower Adlersee is about 3.6 kilometers, its width begins in the east with 1000 meters and decreases to the west to 200 meters. In the north of the lake is the wooded Mirower Holm peninsula .
The lake has tributaries from the north from the Mössensee and from the west from the Zethner See. It has drains to the northeast via the Overbek to the Rätzsee and to the east through a canal to the Großer Peetschsee .
On the northeast edge of the Vilzsee, the fairway of the 32 km long federal waterway Müritz-Havel waterway of waterway class I, which also includes the Vilzsee (ViS) and the Mirower Adlersee (MAS), runs from north to east . The Eberswalde Waterways and Shipping Office is responsible .
