Volker Pingel

Volker Pingel (born October 18, 1941 in Wetzlar ; † March 10, 2005 ) was Professor of Prehistory and Protohistory at the Ruhr University in Bochum .

He completed his studies at the universities of Freiburg, Kiel and Marburg from 1961 to 1967 with a doctorate . The topic of the dissertation was "The smooth turntable ceramics from Manching ".

After a brief activity at the Roman-Germanic Commission (RGK) and a travel grant from the German Archaeological Institute , Pingel was employed at the University of Marburg as an assistant and later as an academic adviser from 1969 before he was appointed to Bochum in 1980 . He had submitted his habilitation on “The prehistoric gold finds of the Iberian Peninsula ” in Marburg in 1977.
