Vorstadtkrokodile 2 is a German youth film from 2010. It is the continuation of the film adaptation of the children's book Vorstadtkrokodile by Max von der Grün (1926–2005) from 2009, most of the main actors appearing here again. In contrast to the previous film, the sequel is not based on any literary material.

action

After the band member Elvis because of a graffiti action to a boarding school was sent, the alligator band only consists of seven young people: Olli and his sister Maria, Hannes, Kai, Frank, Peter and Jorgo refer to the beginning of the film a new headquarters in the abandoned tunnels and Halls of a mine. However, they do not stay undisturbed there for long: Kai's parents are planning a week's vacation on Rügen , but do not want to leave their son at home unattended. That's why Kais moves cousin Jenny, who is about a year older, into his nursery and doesn't let himself be shaken off when he's out with the crocodiles. However, the events in Maria and Olli's family are more dramatic: Both parents work for a company whose entire machine park suddenly no longer works, which is why the factory is threatened with closure and the workers' houses sold. Maria and Olli's parents therefore want to move their children to live with their grandmother in order to find work elsewhere.

After exploring the mine with the help of the building lights from the company, the crocodiles had bad experiences with two employees of the company: The Boller twins are still on the company premises late in the evening for inexplicable reasons, are extremely unfriendly and look after themselves a pretty rowdy driving style with her tuned car. The crocodilians decide to watch them and try to follow them to a trendy discotheque. Here, however, they fail at the doorman and have to use Jenny's help, which Maria does not like. She is easily jealous and bad to talk to Jenny, because she suspects that Hannes is in love with Jenny and no longer with her, but this error is later cleared up by Hannes in a private conversation. This in turn can pass the entrance and lets the crocodilians in through a back entrance. In fact, Hannes can eavesdrop on the twins and learn that they have paralyzed the machine park using a program on a USB stick . When attempting to transfer the Boller brothers to the factory, the crocodiles are in mortal danger: They are discovered and followed by car. Then they try to convince Olli and Maria's parents of the machinations in the factory with the help of the camera pictures taken from the factory, so that they can call in the police. However, the parents do not believe the children and drive away with Olli and Maria the next day, so that the gang is broken up.

In the meantime, Hannes and Kai have secretly found a potential partner for Hannes' mother via the Internet. This friendly and easy-going Dieter Gotte makes an appointment with his mother in the restaurant and also comes to Hannes and his mother's apartment. Hannes found out that Dieter Gotte, of all people, was in possession of the USB data carrier, which was colored red and decorated with a skull sticker. Gotte wants to get the supposedly ailing devices cheaply and sell them to China. The remaining reunited crocodilians manage to steal the stick from Gotte with all sorts of tricks during another visit to a restaurant and to exchange it for another one on which they have only saved a picture of the gang with their tongues sticking out. Before they alerted their parents or the police, however, Gotte had already noticed the exchange and followed them to the mine with the Boller brothers. A fight ensues in the course of which a load of dynamite is ignited and Olli and Maria also reappear, whose parents have come back with them to demonstrate with other workers against the closure. At the last moment, the crocodiles can save themselves and the passed out God and the Boller brothers with the mine train , which shoots out of a tunnel after the explosion and lands in the middle of the factory premises, where the laid-off workers are demonstrating and where Maria and Olli's father is giving a speech . Kai informs the assembled workforce about the machinations of God and the Boller brothers, whereupon the assembly turns into a celebration of joy. In the final scene the crocodiles and their parents dance in the disco; Jenny, who has become more and more friends with the crocodiles, becomes a member of the gang and Hannes and Maria, who have been flirting with each other the whole time, kiss each other.

Reviews

Walli Müller from BR characterized the film as follows: "A little comedy , a little romance, a touch of social drama, neat child-friendly action [...] and extensive detective games." It offers good entertainment for children from ten years of age.

Natália Wiedmann, who considered the previous film to be much more successful, expressed less approval: “The successor does not stand up to the scrutiny [...]” However, she appreciated the consideration of the age and the development of the main actors: “Take yourself more interesting and convincing the character development that sets in motion the appearance of a second girl, the older cousin of a crocodile. Not only gang member Maria suddenly finds himself confronted with role conventions and is looking for a position between adaptation and denial, some of the boys are also wondering which image of masculinity they actually want to correspond to. "

José Garcia also saw a further development in Vorstadtkrokodile 2 : “In the first“ Vorstadtkrokodile ”film the focus was on social integration, especially of wheelchair driver Kai, so the themes of the sequel have grown up, so to speak: In addition to the first budding love between Hannes and Maria Unemployment and Hartz IV are treated according to age [...] Although the plot doesn't always seem coherent, “Vorstadtkrokodile 2” is convincing not only because of the cinematic means, but above all because of the way in which serious questions are dealt with according to age, without trivializing them. "

Andrea Niederfriniger, on the other hand, found the film rather shallow: “The film is entertaining, although not at a high level, but it exudes joy, a love of life and adventure. The plot does not stand up to [...] even a superficial examination [...] "

continuation

The film was continued in 2011 with Suburban Crocodiles 3 .
