Esther Schweins (born April 18, 1970 in Oberhausen , North Rhine-Westphalia ) is a German actress and director who became known as a comedian through her appearances on the television program RTL Saturday Night .

Life

Schweins spent the first years of her life in Oberhausen . Her family later moved to Viernheim . She took acting lessons in Karlsruhe and in 1991 played the role of Lilith in Goethe's Faust I at the Karlsruhe Theater die insel and at the Gengenbach Festival under the direction of Werner Wedekind . She attended the Westphalian Drama School in Bochum for a year . No great future was foretold here. So she worked at the Bavaria Film Park in Bottrop . During this time she made her first major public appearance as the presenter of the avant-garde fashion show Art Couture . After that she was on the theater stage a few times before she was hired for RTL Saturday Night . She was one of the show's regular cast and became a crowd favorite. They had great success there with a parody of the former MTV presenter Kristiane Backer , Kristiane Kacker.

The comedy series was discontinued in 1998. Since then, Schweins has played leading and supporting roles in numerous film and television productions. From 2002 to 2011 she presented the magazine programs Foyer and Theater Landscapes for the then ZDFtheaterkanal and for 3sat .

Before the federal elections in 2002 and 2005 , Schweins was publicly involved in the election campaign for the SPD .

In December 2004, while on vacation in Sri Lanka, she almost fell victim to the flood disaster in Asia . She and her mother were swept away by a tsunami wave, but survived it fairly unscathed. Under the impact of the event, Schweins reduced their material possessions. Since then she has been committed to helping the tsunami victims in Sri Lanka. She also gave up her permanent residence in Germany and lived temporarily with friends and in hotels. Since 2008 she has had a permanent residence on Mallorca again .

In 2002, Schweins directed the play Caveman , which was performed in several German cities. Also with its sequel Hi Dad! in 2009 she directed again. For a five-part documentary series about yoga in India (arte, 2019) she met u. a. the yoga blogger Garima Bhandari.

Private

From 1995 to 1997, Schweins and her colleague actor Ralf Bauer were a couple. From 2006, Schweins was in a relationship with a farmer in Mallorca and had a daughter (* 2007) and a son (* 2008) with him. Her significant other died of stomach cancer in September 2017.
