The 44th Vuelta al Táchira took place from January 6th to 17th, 2009 in Venezuela . The bike race was held in twelve stages over a distance of 1355 kilometers. It belonged to the UCI America Tour 2009 and was classified in category 2.2.

The overall winner of the stage race was the local Rónald González of Lotería Del Táchira with just seven seconds ahead of his fellow Venezuelan Tomás Gil ( Gobierno De Carabobo Fundadeporte ). The podium was completed by Jonathan Monsalve ( Hussein Sport Gobierno Barinas ), who also won the points classification and the combined classification. Last year's winner Manuel Medina was sixth in 2009, 53 seconds behind González, and won the mountain classification. In the sprint classification, Víctor Moreno was able to repeat his success from 2008 .

At the start were teams from Argentina , Slovakia , Mexico , Italy , Greece , the Netherlands and Venezuela , including two national teams. A total of fifteen teams took part. With Christoph Springer and Henrik Wolter from the Heraklion-Nessebar team , two Germans also took part in the race.
