William Earl Brown (born September 7, 1963 in Golden Pond , Kentucky ) is an American actor .
Life
William Earl Brown attended Calloway County High School . He studied theater at Murray State University and then acting at DePaul University in Chicago , where he was a classmate of John C. Reilly and Gillian Anderson , among others . He established himself in the Chicago theater scene before moving to Los Angeles to also act in film. Brown made his debut in 1991 with a small extra role in the drama Backdraft - Men Who Go Through Fire as an actor in a feature film. Since then he has been in films like Crazy About Mary and The Sessions - When Words Touch and occasionally in television series like CSI: On the Trail of the Criminals and Justified . He got more attention than Dan Dority in the western series Deadwood . From 2004 to 2006 he played Al Swearengen's henchman , played by Ian McShane , in 36 episodes.
