Walter Rossi (sound engineer)

Walter A. Rossi , full Walter Aloysius Rossi (born July 12, 1894 ; died February 12, 1978 ) was an American sound engineer who won an Oscar for Best Special Effects and two other Academy Awards for Best Sound Effects was nominated.

Life

Rossi began his career as a sound engineer in the film industry in Hollywood in 1953 with the epic film The Robe (The Robe) by Henry Koster with Richard Burton , Jean Simmons and Victor Mature in the lead roles. Until 1970 he was involved in the production of only seven films.

At the Academy Awards 1958 , Rossi won the Oscar for best special effects in the Dick Powell- directed war film Duel in the Atlantic (The Enemy Below, 1957) with Robert Mitchum , Curd Juergens and David Hedison .

In 1966 he was first nominated for an Oscar for best sound effects for the war film Colonel by Ryan's Express (From Ryan's Express, 1965) by Mark Robson , starring Frank Sinatra , Trevor Howard and Edward Mulhare . A second nomination for the Oscar in this category got Rossi at the Academy Awards in 1967 for the directed by Richard Fleischer created science fiction film Fantastic Voyage (Fantastic Voyage, 1966), in which Stephen Boyd , Raquel Welch and Edmond O ' Brien played the main roles.
