Walter Stich

Walter Stich (* 13. April 1930 in Volmarstein , Ennepe-Ruhr district ; † 1. February 2020 in Detmold ) was a German politician ( CDU ) and President of the Government of the administrative district of Detmold .

Life

Stich originally wanted to become an economist. In 1950, Stich began his law studies at the University of Cologne . There he became a member of the fraternity "Germania". After six semesters, he passed the first state examination in 1954 and the second state examination in 1958.

He began his professional career as head of the legal department at the Volmarstein administration. On September 1, 1959, he entered the service of the Arnsberg district government . After 1970 he became chief officer there.

In 1963, Stich was promoted to government councilor , in 1964 to senior government councilor, in 1966 to government director, in 1970 to senior government director and in 1971 to department director.

On May 9, 1974 he became treasurer and city ​​director of Bochum and thereby also a member of the parliament of the Westphalia-Lippe regional association . From January 19, 1979 to August 31, 1995 he was the district president of the Detmold administrative district.

He lived in Detmold and was there from 1990 to 2004 chairman of the Lippisches Heimatbund , of which he was an honorary member.

Stich was an honorary citizen of Bielefeld University , for whose development he played a key role from 1988 to 2000 as chairman of the board of trustees of the Westfälisch-Lippische Universitätsgesellschaft (since 2019: Universitätsgesellschaft Bielefeld).

For his voluntary work, Stich was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany (Federal Cross of Merit 1984, Large Federal Cross of Merit 1995) and in 2019 the Order of Merit of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia .
