The coat of arms of Cologne was an excursion ship built in 1966/67, which was operated until July 14, 2012 on behalf of the Cologne-Düsseldorf Deutsche Rheinschiffahrt AG. It was used from May to October 2011 for one- and two-hour tours as part of the 2011 Federal Horticultural Show . After that, she retired from scheduled service and was only occasionally used as an event and party ship. In July 2015, she was scrapped at a scrapping yard in 's-Gravendeel . In addition to the Cologne-Düsseldorf ships RheinEnergie and RheinFantasie , it was one of the largest passenger ships on European inland waters .

history

The Rhine in Koblenz, 1973

The passenger ship was built in 1966 and 1967 by the shipyard Christof Ruthof in Mainz-Kastel under construction number 1469. The keel was laid in June 1966, the launch on March 18 of the following year. The shipyard delivered the ship on May 8, 1967, two days later Baroness Veronika von Hammerstein-Loxten christened the ship in Wiesbaden-Biebrich with the name Rhein . The construction costs amounted to 7 million  Deutschmarks .

The Rhine was approved at the time of commissioning on May 13, 1967 to a maximum passenger capacity of 3,000 people. In 1985 it was renamed the Cologne coat of arms . In December 2008, the ship was sold to the wholly owned subsidiary KD Europe S.à rl in Luxembourg and then registered in Valletta , Malta in January 2009 . Since the ships of the Cologne-Düsseldorfer cannot reach their home port due to lack of seaworthiness, they are serviced in Port Niehl I in Cologne. The ship has served as an advertising medium since 2001, initially for the Hasseröder beer brand (2001 to 2006) and then for the Express daily newspaper . In addition to numerous special missions as an event ship, such as for carnival and "over 30" parties of your last advertising sponsor, the large-capacity ship has been used as a floating Christmas market in front of the Frankenwerft in Cologne since the construction-like coat of arms of Mainz was decommissioned during Advent .

In May 2010, the Cologne-Düsseldorfer ordered a new day excursion and event ship with a capacity of up to 1000 passengers from the De Hoop shipyard in Rijnwaarden , which was put into service on May 5, 2011. The ship, which bears the name RheinFantasie , took over the previous event and scheduled trips of the coat of arms of Cologne . The ship was then used for tours at the 2011 Federal Garden Show in Koblenz until October 16, 2011 . Since the excursion boat BUGA Koblenz could not be used in 2011 due to a defect in the steering system, the Cologne coat of arms took over the timetable operations on the Boppard - Rüdesheim route until October 23, 2011 . After that, the shipping company only used the ship as a floating Christmas market, as a party ship and for special events. After being used at the Kölner Licht on July 14, 2012, it was launched in the Niehl I port and was for sale until March 2015. During this time it was used as a warehouse for the ships of the Australian tour operator Scenic Tours . Since the Cologne-Düsseldorfer contractually excluded the use of ships in their own area of operation, which is interesting for tourists, no buyer was found, so that the Cologne coat of arms was transferred to 's-Gravendeel for scrapping on March 28, 2015 . Four months later it was broken up there.

Furnishing

The coat of arms of Cologne as a tour ship at the BUGA 2011

The coat of arms of Cologne was a four-deck passenger ship with a usable area of 1300  and an average ceiling height of 2.20 m. The 158-seat bar in the bow of the lower deck was connected to the entrance area with cloakroom in the central nave. Behind it was the engine room, to which the cooling and supply rooms were connected aft and aft. The two restaurants on the main deck, separated by the entrance hall, had a total of 394 seats. The partially handicapped accessible toilet facilities and the ship's office were set up in the entrance hall. There were also two restaurants on the upper deck with space for 372 passengers. The front restaurant was provided with extensive glazing at the bow. Aft , a roofed open deck with 72 seats was connected to the rear restaurant. The sun deck, which is divided by the retractable steering position and other superstructures, could accommodate up to 1,000 passengers. There were five salons in the closed decks of the coat of arms of Cologne . Most recently, the ship was only approved for a maximum of 1985 passengers.

The coat of arms of Cologne was 92.50 m long, 15.85 m wide (9.00 m upper and open deck) and 10.20 m high. The maximum draft was given as 1.47 m. Due to the projecting hull, the slender stern section and the engine and propulsion system arranged amidships, the appearance of the ship resembled that of a side-wheel steamer, even when in motion .

The drive took place with two 12-cylinder diesel engines of the type Deutz SBA12M421 with an output of 735  kW each , which each acted on a four- bladed Voith-Schneider drive . This design made the ship very maneuverable.
