Saint Martin coat of arms

The coat of arms of Saint-Martin , the French part of the island of St. Martin in the Antilles , is more naturalistic than heraldic in its depiction.

The blue shield with a green shield base and a blue lake shows a black sailing ship with white gaff sails on two masts sailing to the left . Green palm leaves protrude from the right edge of the shield and partially cover a golden disk of the sun without rays or face. A white pelican stands on the right in the lawn and on the left half a red flower with golden clusters shines.

In the black head of the shield , in golden capitals , it says “VILLE de SAINT MARTIN” or “COLLECTIVITE DE SAINT MARTIN” depending on the era.
