Warren M. Anderson

Warren Mattice Anderson (born October 16, 1915 in Bainbridge , Chenango County , New York - † June 1, 2007 in Johnson City , Broome County , New York) was an American soldier, lawyer and politician ( Republican Party ). He was a Presbyterian and a member of Alpha Tau Omega , the American Legion, and the Sons of the American Revolution .

Career

Warren Mattice Anderson served in the US Army during World War II .

He was a member of the New York Senate between 1953 and 1988 . There he represented the 45th district from 1953 to 1954, the 47th district from 1955 to 1965, the 55th district in 1966, the 47th district from 1967 to 1982 and finally the 51st district from 1983 to 1988. Anderson chaired the Senate Finance Committee between 1966 and 1972 . He attended the Republican National Conventions as a delegate in 1972, 1976 and 1980 . After Earl Brydges resigned from his post as Majority Leader , he followed him into office. He worked in 1975 with Governor Hugh Carey and the Speaker of the Assembly Stanley earthenware in a program package together to New York City before a bankruptcy to save.

In his role as Temporary President in the New York Senate, Anderson served twice as acting lieutenant governor . Anderson held the post for the first time from 1973 to December 1974 and the second time from February 1985 to December 1986. The first time Governor Nelson Rockefeller resigned from his position, he was succeeded by Lieutenant Governor Malcolm Wilson . The second time, Lieutenant Governor Alfred DelBello resigned from his post.

Anderson also ran for the Republican nomination for governor of New York in 1978, but was beaten by Perry Duryea .

Anderson came back in 1988 in the law firm of Hinman, Howard & Kattell, LLP in Binghamton (New York) at. In May 2006, he announced his support for John Faso , the former Assembly minority leader , in the Republican nomination for governor of New York.

Anderson died in 2007 at the Wilson Memorial Regional Medical Center in Johnson City, New York.

Honors

The Interstate 88 , which by Southern Tier runs to county seat, was named after him.

Warren Mattice Anderson was the son of Edna (Mattice) Anderson and Floyd E. Anderson. He married Eleanor C. Sanford († 1996) on June 28, 1941.
