The Wasserschöpfmühle Agnes is an earth Dutchman with a codend in Südbrookmerland in Lower Saxony . The structure was erected in 1988 in Bedekaspel, a district in southern Brookmerland, as a replica of a mill from the Great Sea , which was demolished there in 1920.

history

The Erdholländer with codend was built as a water mill on the Great Sea to drain the Bargsteder Meede. The necessary transport of water from the lowlands to higher lying areas was realized with an Archimedean screw. Around 1920 the mill lost its function, was sold demolished and used elsewhere. When a 2-  hectare site on the Wiegboldsburer Riede was made available for a wetland by a master thatched roofer in order to create a wetland, the remains of the mill were brought back near their original location in 1986 and rebuilt in 1988 Erdholländer supplied to a new use. Today, contrary to its original purpose, it serves to irrigate the wetland. According to an old Dutch custom, when the mill was inaugurated on October 10, 1988, it was spontaneously baptized in the name of the present, then fourteen-year-old daughter of Behrend Meyer, who had donated the areas for building the wetland and the mill. Later, a small hiking trail was created so that an external inspection is possible.

Technical specifications

The upper mill housing is rotatably mounted on a fixed base. The delivery head is 0.84  m . The wings have a span of 10.60 m and are covered with sails.
