Crossroads in the mouse cave
The wayside cross in the Maushöhle on the outskirts of the small Palatinate town of Deidesheim is a field cross that is classified as a cultural monument under the Monument Protection Act of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate .
The cross made of red sandstone stands a few meters west of the German Wine Route at the northern exit of Deidesheim in the hallway "In der Maushöhle". It dates from the 19th century and is a tombstone that was reused as a cross. A small body made of zinc hangs on the cross. The cross is marked on the back of the base with "Kern Speyer."; its creator was probably the sculptor Carl Kern .
The inscription "AVE CRUX, SPES UNICA" can be found in the base.
The cross is 2.90 m, its base 1 m high. The tinplate body is 50 cm long. The cross was erected at the suggestion of Pastor Heinrich Hartz .
