The music video for the song, which was published at the same time, was played regularly on German music television channels and gave Sido a first career boost. Between 2006 and 2008 the song was released as a single in December each year, each time reaching a position in the German single charts . In 2006, the highest ranking in the chart was 34th place in the German Top 100.

background

The Christmas song was the first and, until the release of Mein Block in April 2004, the only song by the sampler Aggro Ansage Nr. 3 , for which a music video was released. After a track was selected for the only music video of the previous sampler Aggro Ansage Nr. 2 with Aggro Part 2 , on which Sido, Bushido and B-Tight all the artists of the label were represented, this time Aggro Berlin concentrated on the Artist Sido, whose debut album Maske was due to be released the following spring.

The music video for the Christmas song was shown regularly on German music television in the winter of 2003 as the first Aggro Berlin release, giving Sido a first boost in his career as a solo artist. According to Sido, the high presence of the video on television was due to the fact that the major label Universal Music , which at the time had shown an increased interest in engaging Aggro Berlin artists, and not Aggro Berlin itself, sent this to the German music television stations have. Bushido and the then responsible Universal Music Urban A&R employee Neffi Temur later explained in interviews that Universal was initially only interested in Bushido, who was the first Aggro Berlin artist to enter the chart with his debut album Vom Bordstein bis zur Skyline , have had. According to Bushido, the transfer of the Christmas song via Universal was a condition of Aggro Berlin to Temur for their consent to a collaboration between Universals and Bushido. Aggro Berlin and Bushido parted ways in the summer of 2004, after which he signed with Universal. A collaboration between Aggro Berlin and Universal came about - according to Sidos u. a. because the attention of the general public that began with the Christmas song gave the label an independent perspective - initially not realized. Immediately after Bushido's own label ersguterjunge and Universal Music separated in 2007, the latter company took over the distribution of all of Aggro Berlin's artists. Subsequent editions of the Christmas song were then distributed by Universal.

From 2006, the Christmas song was produced by Aggro Berlin based on the Wham! Which has been re-released for decades at Christmas time . -Title Last Christmas also always re-released as a single in December. Sido, who had conceived the song as an “anti-Christmas song” , said that he had already planned such a procedure when the song was written.

content

The Christmas song was written by Sido on the music of the producer duo Beathoavenz (Tomas Schmidt and Zafer Kurfas). The music and melody are reminiscent of the Christmas carol Jingle Bells . In terms of content, the song deals with typical Christmas topics such as presents, Santa Claus and snow, but underlaid with reinterpretations and a certain criminal energy in a manner typical of the genre. In the song itself, Sido raps as a personified Santa Claus ("Sido with sack"), who, for example, breaks into a house through the chimney and has fun there. For example, he hands out presents to Erika “a child like every year”. “Snow” is also typically equated with the slang expression for cocaine .

Starting with Christmas song 07 , the line of text “Bushido's album put the cards on the table ” was changed to “Fuck 7, my fans buy ten , alluding to Bushido's current album 7 . Bushido, who was still under contract with Aggro Berlin when the original was released, left the record company in a dispute in 2004.

Remixes

With the first single release of the song in 2006, a remix of the song was released. This includes G-Hot , Kitty Kat and Tony D as feature guests , each rapping a verse. Sido himself can only be heard in the chorus and towards the end, when the gifts are listed. D. Neumann is responsible for the remix. In 2007 the song was remixed by Goofiesmackerz . The song was also reinterpreted by the comedy duo Peilerman and Flow .

Music video

In December 2003, a music video directed by Specter was released under the Christmas song . In addition to Sido himself, the then Aggro Berlin members Bushido and B-Tight as well as Die Sekt members Tony D and Mesut appear. They are all dressed in red, some in Santa Claus costumes. In the first part of the video, Sido collects products in a sack in the Aggro-Berlin warehouse and takes them to a department store. There he distributes them to passers-by. In a flashback you can see how he attacked Santa Claus and stole his costume. His way then leads him through a Christmas market , where he gets drunk and distributes other gifts. The last thing he does is go into a house and lie down in the bathtub. The video has been viewed over 12 million times on YouTube since 2010 (as of March 2020).

success

The song was released a total of three times as a single, the first time on December 1, 2006 together with the remix version. This reached number 34 in the charts and stayed in the German single charts for a total of seven weeks. The 2007 version reached number 45. In 2008 the song reached number 74. In Austria the single reached number 38 in 2006 and 69 in 2007. Together with the assfuck song , the Christmas song is one of the first works with which Sido as a solo artist (apart from Alles ist die Sect ) receives attention.
