Werner Rahn

Werner Rahn (born June 9, 1939 in Ilsenburg ) is a German naval officer ( captain at sea a. D.) and military historian . He was the head of the Military History Research Office .

Life

Werner Rahn began training as an electrician after primary school . In 1954 the family left for the Federal Republic . In 1960 he passed the Abitur at the Herdecke Secondary School .

He joined the German Armed Forces on April 1, 1960 , became an officer in the Navy and had various on-board and land commands. In 1974 he was at Günter Moltmann at the Department of Historical Sciences of the University of Hamburg with a thesis defense conception and the Navy in the Weimar Republic to the Dr. phil. PhD . After studying history, Rahn taught military history at the Mürwik Naval School and the Bundeswehr Leadership Academy .

From 1980 to 1997 he was employed (among other things as a department head) at the Military History Research Office, whose head of office he was from April 1995 to September 1997. In 1991/92, Rahn was Secretary of the Navy Research Fellow at Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island, as part of an exchange program for the US Navy .

After his retirement in 1997, he took over the Berlin office of the German Society for Defense Technology from 2006 to 2009 .
