Friedrich Wilhelm Rothert (born April 28, 1842 in Lingen , † October 6, 1915 in Hanover ) was a German Protestant clergyman and local researcher.

Life

He was the youngest of five children of the grammar school director Moritz Rothert (1802–1886) and Friederike Wilhelmine Dorette, née. Long. He spent his youth in Aurich . His brother Carl Anton Eduard Hermann (1839–1916) later became the editor of a historical map series .

From 1860 Rothert studied Protestant theology at the University of Erlangen . He became a member of the Erlanger Wingolf . In 1862 he moved to the Georg-August University in Göttingen and became a member of the Germania Göttingen Association, which at that time also belonged to Wingolf . After graduating, he initially worked as a private tutor. In 1869 he became assistant preacher in Hameln , 1871 in Bardowick , 1873 pastor in Heisede and in 1878 collegiate preacher in Loccum monastery , where he was involved in leading the seminary. From August 11, 1889 to 1902, he worked as superintendent in Clausthal . In 1902 he moved to Nienburg / Weser , where he was in charge of the church until 1908. He then spent his retirement in Hanover.

Rothert was married to Antonie Kisker, with whom he had four children. In addition to his work as a clergyman, he was active in journalism and writing; The Inner Mission as well as the local and regional history were of particular concern to him . He showed great commitment in the field of church music : from 1897 to 1915 he was chairman of the Hanoverian, from 1898 to 1915 also of the Lower Saxony Church Choir Association.

The Wilhelm-Rothert Street in Nienburg / Weser is named after him.
