Heinz Wilhelm Steckling OMI (born April 23, 1947 in Verl ) is a German Oblate Missionary and Bishop of Ciudad del Este .

Life

Wilhelm Steckling grew up in Spexard , a district in the southeast of the district town of Gütersloh in North Rhine-Westphalia. He joined the Congregation of the Oblate of Mary Immaculate , known as Hünfelder wafers in and laid on May 1, 1967 its first and after studying theology and Philosophe at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz on 15 April 1973, the final vows from . On the same day he became the bishop of Mainz , Hermann Cardinal Volk , the deacon ordained. On July 20, 1974 , he received the sacrament of ordination in the Brother Konrad Church in Spexard from the Bishop of Kimberley , Erwin Hecht OMI . As a missionary he worked in Pilcomayo in Paraguay , including as chaplain of St. Vincent de Paul in Independencia .

From 1986 to 1992 he was Provincial of the Order Province in northern Argentina. From 1992 to 1998 he was a member of the General Administration of the Oblates before he was elected Superior General of the Congregation in 1998 at the General Chapter, to which the Provincial Superiors and other representatives of the community belong . In 2010 his second term ended. He was advisor to the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples and the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue . Since 2010 he has been rector of the Oblate Seminary in the Paraguayan capital Asuncion.

Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Ciudad del Este on November 15, 2014. He received the episcopal ordination on December 21, 2014 by the Bishop of Caacupé , Catalino Claudio Giménez Medina ; Co- consecrators were Lucio Alfert OMI, Vicar Apostolic of Pilcomayo , and Ricardo Jorge Valenzuela Ríos , Bishop of Villarrica del Espíritu Santo .
