William R. Lasky (born March 24, 1921 in Los Angeles , California , † January 21, 1985 ibid) was an American film producer , assistant director and filmmaker who was nominated for an Oscar in 1950 .

biography

William R. Lasky was a son of the film pioneer and film producer Jesse L. Lasky and his wife Bessie Ginzberg. His brother was the screenwriter Jesse L. Lasky Jr. and his sister was the writer and film historian Betty Lasky. Like his siblings, Lasky embarked on a career that was dedicated to the subject of film. In 1941 he assisted director Howard Hawks on the biopic Sergeant York, which his father co-produced . Lasky fought on the side of the United States in World War II .

At the 1950 Academy Awards , Lasky was nominated for an Oscar in the Best Short Film category for his short drama Boy and the Eagle, starring Dickie Moore in the lead role of a boy who cares for an injured bald eagle , which has unforeseen consequences for him . However, this went to Gaston Diehl and Robert Hessens and the documentary short film Van Gogh , which thematizes the life and work of Vincent van Gogh .

In the biographical reality television show This Is Your Life broadcast from 1952 to 1961 , Lasky got involved, as did other family members. In his role as assistant director, Lasky accompanied two episodes of the Bronco western series in 1959 . He was involved in the 1972 mystery thriller Die Rache ist mein, by and with George C. Scott , as well as in the musical comedy Thank God It's Friday (1978) with Donna Summer . His last listed film is Comedy 1998 - The 1979 Four Billion Dollar Show, starring John Ritter .

William R. Lasky, who was married to Margaret Lucille, died in 1985 at the age of 63.
