  • 1603 : With the death of the childless English Queen Elizabeth I , the Scottish King James VI. in personal union as James I also King of England and Ireland . This began the rule of the Stuarts in the British Isles.

  • 1999 : A fire breaks out in the cold store of a Belgian truck while driving through the Mont Blanc tunnel , which develops rapidly in the tunnel. 39 people died in the resulting disaster.
  • 2015 : When Germanwings flight 9525 crashes in the French Alps, all 150 people on board are killed. The copilot had deliberately steered the aircraft against a mountain range.
