The March 14 is the 73rd day of the Gregorian calendar (74th in leap years ), thus remain 292 days by year end. The day is celebrated as Pi day , since the Anglo-American spelling of its date 3/14 represents the most famous and first three digits of the circle number .

1910: Lakeview Gusher
  • 1910 : In the initiated by the Lakeview Oil Company in California borehole Lakeview Number One there will be a blowout . At the so-called Lakeview Gusher , around 1,400,000 m³ of crude oil pour out over the next 1½ years before the outbreak can be brought under control.
  • 1951 : An earthquake of intensity 5.2 on the Richter scale in Euskirchen causes millions in damages, among others in the Old Town . 11 people are injured.
  • 1972 : A Caravelle of Sterling Airways Aerospatiale crashes in the United Arab Emirates on Al-Fujairah. All 112 people on board die.
