history

From 1936 to the 1960s

The construction company Wolff & Müller was founded in Stuttgart in 1936 by the builder Gottlob Müller and the graduate engineer Karl Wolff . Three years later, the company had around 1,500 employees and built bridges, sewage treatment plants, houses and industrial objects in the region, mainly for Bosch and Daimler-Benz . After the end of the war, Wolff & Müller participated in the reconstruction of the destroyed city of Stuttgart. In 1949 Gottlob Müller became the sole shareholder and initiated the expansion of the branch network. Künzelsau was the first of a total of 28 branches throughout Germany today. In the construction boom of the 1950s, the company built both high-rise buildings for social housing as well as numerous facilities with condominiums and terraced houses. At the same time, Wolff & Müller embarked on the path of diversification with the expansion of business activities in areas related to construction, including with their own wood, gravel and concrete plant.

From the 1970s to 2004

In the 1970s, the company began producing prefabricated wooden houses and, in view of rising construction prices, also began renovating and refurbishing old buildings. In 1976, Wolff & Müller was active internationally for the first time, with major projects in Nigeria and Saudi Arabia .

In 1977 Wolfgang Dürr, Gottlob Müller's son-in-law, joined the company as a member of the management team. Under his chairmanship, the company expanded in the field of turnkey construction , regional expansion to the north and east and the establishment of construction-related services. In 1987 the building construction and civil engineering and road construction divisions were separated within the corporate structure in order to take into account the different construction methods in these two areas. In the 1990s, Wolff & Müller expanded its portfolio in the field of building materials and services with companies for energy consulting (especially electricity and gas), insurance consulting, purchasing bundling, project development and real estate management. In 2002 PST Spezialtiefbau Süd was integrated into the group of companies.

From 2005

After Wolfgang Dürr's death in 2005, his son Albert Dürr took over and became a member of the management team in 2006. He continued the strategy of specialization in defined construction segments. This was also anchored in company law in 2008 - with the establishment of the operating companies Regional Construction, Special Construction and Civil Engineering and Road Construction under the umbrella of Wolff & Müller Holding. At the same time, the topics of digitization and sustainability in construction were pushed forward. Since 2010, Wolff & Müller has been the first German construction company to be completely CO 2 -neutral. Building Information Modeling , a holistic model for planning, realizing and using buildings, has been in use since 2008. With the participation in the companies Fischer Stahlbau and Fischer Glasscon in 2012, the group further expanded its steel construction expertise. In the same year, the fourth operating company, Government Services, was founded for construction projects for customers in the government sector at home and abroad, especially US armed forces.

The construction division of the Wolff & Müller Group has had its current structure since 2015 with the four divisions of structural and industrial construction, civil and road construction, civil engineering and government services. In 2015 Wolff & Müller was named the overall winner of the nationwide “Construction Company of the Year” competition. As of 2016, the company is one of the "Top 500 family businesses" and this year also won the Baden-Württemberg environmental award.

The Wolff & Müller Group is represented at 27 locations in Germany.

Wolff & Müller is a project partner of the Ludwigsburg environmental foundation NatureLife-International, which is setting up forest farms on the Philippine island of Leyte. As buffer zones, these protect remains of the primeval forest, stabilize slopes at risk of erosion and at the same time offer people food and income.

dispute

In 2017, the city of Stuttgart terminated the contract with Wolff & Müller to build the Rosenstein tunnel due to safety violations and disproportionately high claims for supplements. The company denied the allegations and blamed the city for delays in construction due to planning changes. The dispute is now in court. In addition, the city of Freiburg and its transport companies are arguing with Wolff & Müller over a year after the completion of the Kronenbrücke over the costs, at the beginning of 2020 out of court.
