Yazz

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Yazz (* 19th May 1960 in Shepherd's Bush , London as Yasmin Evans ) is a British singer , keyboard player and song writer .

Life

Yasmin Evans began her musical career in the late 1970s as a singer in the band Biz. The daughter of a Jamaican and a British woman then worked as a model for several years before joining the Coldcut group in 1987 . Doctorin 'the House was established in early 1988, a top 10 - hit in the UK and a top 20 hit in Germany .

In mid-1988 she started a solo career. Right at the start she achieved her greatest success with The Only Way Is Up , a cover version of the 1980 song by Otis Clay . The song, which combined elements of pop and house , became a number one hit in the UK and ranked number three on the German charts . Other top 10 singles were Stand Up for Your Love Rights and Fine Time . With Where Has All the Love Gone? and Treat Me Good , Yazz reached top 20 positions in the UK charts in 1989 and 1990.

By spring 1997, six other singles entered the British charts, although they only made it to middle positions. Among them was the title How Long , published in mid-1993 , a collaboration with the British reggae band Aswad , which also became a chart hit in Germany. Four follow-up singles rose to the UK charts, but it was no longer enough for top positions. Later publications went largely unnoticed.
