Yorkshire Party ( English for Yorkshire Party ) formerly Yorkshire First is a political party that works for the self-government of the former county of Yorkshire . The party was founded shortly before the 2014 European elections by former teacher and former Labor supporter Richard Carter. The political demands of the regional party include the establishment of a separate parliament for Yorkshire on the model of the Scottish Parliament or the Welsh Parliament . In an interview with the BBC on April 1, 2015, party leader Carter said his party wanted to give Yorkshire a "real voice" within the UK. The party is not separatist, but wants a strong United Kingdom that is equally there for all its parts and regions. In July 2016, Yorkshire First was renamed Yorkshire Party.
