history
ZSK was founded in 1997 in Göttingen and shortly afterwards played the first concerts in left-wing youth centers, squatted houses and at various skateboard events. Her first demo tape, Keep Skateboarding Punkrock, followed. The name of the band alludes to the controversial "Zivile Streifenkommando" (ZSK) of the Göttingen police.
In 2000 ZSK released the first CD in co-production with the band Blowing Fuse . Then they got offers to play as opening act for big bands like Terrorgruppe . Two years later, the band had moved to Berlin in the meantime, they released their first album, Riot Radio . Then the second guitarist Niki left, Beni took his place. This was followed by appearances in the supporting act for the skatepunk band Venerea , Anti-Flag , the Donots and for The (International) Noise Conspiracy . In the fall of 2004, another album called From Protest to Resistance was released. In the following time, ZSK played as the opening act for The Distillers , Dead Kennedys , Good Riddance and Social Distortion, among others .
So far the band has played around 300 concerts in nine different countries. In spring 2005, Die Toten Hosen took notice of ZSK and engaged the band for the opening act for some of their concerts. Then ZSK played in the opening act for Bad Religion on their summer tour through Germany. In 2006, their third album, Discontent Hearts And Gasoline , was released, and ZSK toured with Taking Back Sunday and the Bloodhound Gang . ZSK's first live DVD was released in February 2007 with the title: When so many are silent, we have to scream louder . This includes a DVD with nine live songs as the opening act for "Hosen"; In addition, a 90-minute autobiography, all published music videos, and a CD with six previously unpublished and nine live songs (also from the opening act at den Hosen).
On March 24, 2007, the band broke up after the farewell concert in the Hamburg club “Bad and Dangerous”. In a final e-mail, they thanked all the fans who had supported them for ten years and announced that they would devote even more time to achieving their political goals: “So we will definitely get away from us from time to time let hear. It was definitely not the last time we saw each other. Promise! ", It said in the farewell letter.
Since 2011 the musicians from ZSK have been back on stage with the new drummer Matthias. Since then, the albums Heart for the Cause were released on May 10, 2013 and the latest album Hallo Hope on July 27, 2018.
On July 10th, 2020 the band released the song “I have better things to do” as an homage to Christian Drosten on Youtube . The band takes up in particular the disputes between Drosten and BILD editor-in-chief Julian Reichelt (see also Christian Drosten # Public criticism and hostility ).
Projects
In 2005 the band started, in collaboration with u. a. Die Toten Hosen , Die Ärzte , Donots , Madsen , Muff Potter , Beatsteaks , Julia Hummer and Culcha Candela , a project called “ Don't be interested in Nazis ”. A free DVD with educational and informational material on right-wing structures in Germany was also released. In interviews, anti-fascist youth projects are presented and the bands send a clear signal against the law. The DVD, with a circulation of 60,000, can no longer be ordered free of charge, as all copies have already been sent. However, it is still legal and free to download from the Internet. The project is supported by the anti-fascist press archive and education center Berlin (apabiz), the Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung and the “Workplace for Right-Wing Extremism and Violence Braunschweig”. A free school newspaper was also published under the same motto, which can also be ordered in larger quantities if the intended use is specified.
Since 2007 there has been a new version of “Kein Bock Auf Nazis” with a circulation of 50,000 copies: “Kein Bock auf Nazis Reloaded”. Fettes Brot , Wir sind Helden and MTV presenter Markus Kavka are new on the DVD . There is also a new TV documentary from Rundfunk Berlin Brandenburg (rbb) about neo-Nazis.
Texts
The aim of the criticism that ZSK repeatedly expresses in their texts is the topics of xenophobia in all possible forms, police violence, social injustice, careless consumerism , rigid deportation policies, insufficiently legitimized hierarchies and globalization . In doing so, positive change and commitment are usually called for. In addition, ZSK propagates vegetarianism and veganism with its music and sympathizes with the animal rights organization PeTA and the Animal Liberation Front . The debut album includes some videos about the G8 summit in Genoa as well as a PETA video. A separate CD-ROM is included with the second album for this purpose . With her song “24. August 1992 “the band took a critical stance on the riots in Rostock-Lichtenhagen .
ZSK sing mainly in German, because you should understand their messages quickly. In order to provide music for foreign “revolutionaries”, some pieces are in English.
ZSK covered the song We have to get out of here by the group Ton Steine Schherd from the LP No Power for Nobody .
