Zachary "Zach" Sill (born May 24, 1988 in Truro , Nova Scotia ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Kölner Haien from the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) since July 2019 and plays there in the position of the center .

Career

During his junior years until 2006, Sill first played for the Truro Bearcats from his hometown in the Maritime Junior Hockey League . After a brief stint at the University of Maine , he was drawn to the Moncton Wildcats in the Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec for the 2007/08 season . Sill played there for two years and was able to attract the attention of the professional teams with his performance.

The undrafted free agent signed a contract with the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins from the American Hockey League in the summer of 2009 , which the Pittsburgh Penguins from the National Hockey League extended in May 2011 and extended with a validity for the NHL. In the course of the four years between 2009 and 2013, Sill was mainly on the farm team in Wilkes-Barre / Scranton in the AHL. The center forward only made his debut in the NHL in the 2013/14 season and played 20 games for Pittsburgh, although he had to sit out large parts of the season due to injury. For the 2014/15 season, Sill established himself in the Pittsburgh squad and had played a total of 42 games by February 2015, in which he scored three points.

Before the trade deadline , he was finally given a four-round vote in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft and a second-round vote in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft to the Toronto Maple Leafs . In return, they sent Daniel Winnik to the penguins. With the Leafs, Sill played another 21 games. They did not extend the expiring contract at the end of the season. In July 2015, Sill joined the Washington Capitals as a free agent , who used him in both the NHL and their farm team Hershey Bears in the AHL during the 2015/16 season . After the 2017/18 season, his contract in Washington was not extended, so he joined HC Sparta Prague for one season . For the following season 2019/20 he stayed in Europe and signed a contract with the Kölner Haien from the German Ice Hockey League (DEL).
