About this picture

Zerrenthin is a municipality in the district of Vorpommern-Greifswald in eastern Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (Germany). The community belongs to the Uecker-Randow-Tal district with its seat in the nearby town of Pasewalk .

geography

Zerrenthin lies on the northern edge of a terminal moraine arc that stretches from Pasewalk to Löcknitz between Uecker - and Randowtal . The flatter area of the Ueckermünder Heide begins north of Zerrenthin . The community is about seven kilometers east of Pasewalk.

history

Zerrenthin was first mentioned as "Sarnotino" in 1216 in a document that notes that the church property belongs to Eggesin . At that time Eggesins owned the Grobe Monastery on Usedom . 150 years later, the monastery gave up the estate because of its remote location.

Zerrenthin was originally a Uuckmarket village and belonged to the Mark Brandenburg . With in 1818 in the Kingdom of Prussia carried out basic administrative reform, the reorganization of the provinces, counties and districts, belonged Zerrenthin so then from 1818 to 1950 for the district of Prenzlau in the administrative district of Potsdam in the Prussian province of Brandenburg . It was not until the GDR district reform in 1950 that it was added to the newly formed ( Western Pomerania ) Pasewalk district in the state of Mecklenburg . Due to the dissolution of the federal states and the formation of the districts in the GDR in July 1952 , Zerrenthin and the Pasewalk district now belonged to the Neubrandenburg district until 1990 .

Between 1937 and 1956 , the later writer Irma Harder , born in the nearby village of Polzow , lived and worked . Lankow (* 1915 † 2008) in Zerrenthin. In 1937 she married the middle farmer Adalbert Harder, with whom she ran a farm in Zerrenthin. After the death of her husband in 1946, she continued to run the farm. At the same time, she began to write plays for an amateur drama group she founded and to write first stories. In these, she presented a realistic picture of everyday village life in a simple style, as she experienced it during her time as a farmer. Her books “ Im Haus am Wiesenweg ” (1956) and “ Die Frau vom Ziegelhof ” (1984) are based on her experiences and life in Zerrenthin. In 1956 she left Zerrenthin and went to Potsdam as a freelance writer.

The ancestors of the former South African swimmer Charlène Lynette Grimaldi , b. Wittstock (* 1978), who has been Princess of Monaco since her marriage to Prince Albert II in 2011 , come from Zerrenthin and lived there from 1807 to 1861. Her great-great-great-grandfather Christian Friedrich Wittstock was a farm worker and lived with his wife Christine in Zerrenthin, which around 1807 counted a total of 17 whole farmers, 5 whole cottagers, 7 Büdner and 28 residents as well as a forge, a jug and a total of 55 fireplaces. Charlène's great-great-grandfather Martin Gottlieb was born in the village in 1840 and baptized in August of the same year in the Zerrenthiner Feldsteinkirche, as can be seen from the entry in the church baptismal register that has survived to this day. Her great-great-grandparents, Martin Gottlieb and his wife Louise Wittstock, emigrated to South Africa in 1861 with Gottlieb's parents and eight other siblings from Zerrenthin via Hamburg on board the ship “ San Francisco ” . The Wittstocks lived there in the early years as day laborers or looked for diamonds.

In November 1862, Zerrenthin, like the other places on the railway line, was connected to the Prussian railway network by the Berlin-Stettiner Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft via the Pasewalk-Löcknitz-Stettin railway line . The line was then officially opened in November 1863 the following year. Zerrenthin has had a volunteer fire brigade since 1911 . During the First World War from 1914 to 1918, 32 soldiers from Zerrenthin were killed. A war memorial in the churchyard of the village church in Zerrenthin reminds of them to this day . In 1923 the sports club "Fortuna" Zerrenthin eV was founded.

In 1972 a new prefabricated school building was built in Zerrenthin on the outskirts towards Wetzenow, and until 1990 the “ Clara Zetkinpolytechnic school was located there. The POS in Zerrenthin served as the central school location for the surrounding villages. With the German reunification in 1990, the school was initially converted into a primary and secondary school, later into a primary and secondary school. Classes continued there until around 1998, when the school was closed and finally demolished around 2003. Only the gym and the adjoining building, in which the elementary school was previously housed, are still standing today and are used by the local associations.

In 1990, with German reunification, the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania was rebuilt for the second time after 1945. As a result of the district reform in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in 1994, the three GDR districts Pasewalk , Ueckermünde and Strasburg formed the new district of Uecker-Randow , to which Zerrenthin belonged until 2011. As a result of another district reform in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in 2011 , Zerrenthin has since been part of the newly formed district of Western Pomerania-Greifswald .

In 2003 a new combined community center was built in Zerrenthin. Here you will find a bowling alley and a larger room for parties, celebrations or meetings as well as the new premises of the Zerrenthin volunteer fire brigade. The old fire station not far away has been abandoned and is for sale. In 2011, Zerrenthin first celebrated the 100th anniversary of the volunteer fire brigade, while in 2013 the 90th anniversary of the sports club "Fortuna" Zerrenthin eV was celebrated. In 2016, Zerrenthin will celebrate its 800th anniversary, in memory of the first mention of the place in 1216.

coat of arms

Zerrenthin coat of arms
Blazon : "Divided, above in silver a steeple-roofed church tower with an open gate, on the spire a golden knob with a black high cross, below in blue a golden raised three-mountain, topped with an eight-spoke black wagon wheel, raised by two turned golden ears."

The coat of arms and the flag were designed by the Zerrenthiner Marcel Guderjan . It was approved by the Ministry of the Interior on October 26, 2015 and registered under the number 359 of the coat of arms of the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

Reasons for the coat of arms: The main elements of the coat of arms are the conspicuous pointed helmet of the church tower , as a widely visible symbol of Zerrenthin as well as the grain ears and the wagon wheel that represent the rich farmers who settled here in the 17th century.
