Onion vegetables
As bulb vegetables is called the underground plant parts of leek plants (Alliaceae), which are eaten as a vegetable. As root vegetables, they are among the oldest cultivated plants known to man.
The onion vegetables include:
- Onions ( Allium cepa )
- Garlic ( Allium sativum )
- Winter onions ( Allium fistulosum )
Other representatives (especially leek species) of the leek family are counted among the leafy vegetables and herbs according to their edible parts . These are for example:
- Leeks ( Allium porrum )
- Chives ( Allium schoenoprasum )
- Wild garlic ( Allium ursinum )
