Onion vegetables

As bulb vegetables is called the underground plant parts of leek plants (Alliaceae), which are eaten as a vegetable. As root vegetables, they are among the oldest cultivated plants known to man.

The onion vegetables include:

• Onions ( Allium cepa )
• Garlic ( Allium sativum )
• Winter onions ( Allium fistulosum )

Other representatives (especially leek species) of the leek family are counted among the leafy vegetables and herbs according to their edible parts . These are for example:

• Leeks ( Allium porrum )
• Chives ( Allium schoenoprasum )
• Wild garlic ( Allium ursinum )
