The basic difference between ordinary LL.M. study program and LL.M. study program in European law is relatively narrow specialization of the latter. Usually, such a curriculum would start with general lectures in EC law and history of European integration, to be fallowed with specialized courses, e.g. law governing the fundamental freedoms, EC competition law, Law of the Economic and Monetary Union, European Public Procurement Law. <br />

Another difference between general LL.M.´s and the LL.M. Eur is that, by their very nature, LL.M. programs in European Law tend to be much more international. Due to the fact they do not deal with the law of only one or two jurisdictions (two in case of programs in Comparative Law), they attract participants from many countries. In effect, participants are provided with the additional experience of working in an international, often multicultural, environment. This is the reason why EC institutions and some international law firms prefer graduates with this kind of diploma.
