The '''Village of Boonville''' is within the [[Boonville (town), New York|Town of Boonville]] in the northern part of Oneida County, north of [[Utica, New York]].

== History ==
The first settlement, instigated by Gerrit Boon, was made around 1795. The village was incorporated in [[1855]]. The original name of the community, provided by Boon, was "Kortenaer" (after [[Egbert Bartholomeusz Kortenaer]], a Dutch admiral).

The former [[Black River Canal]] was constructed to connect the [[Erie Canal]] to the [[Black River (New York)|Black River]]. The completion of a railroad line to the village in 1855, marked the decline for the recently completed canal.

In 1933, a significant clash occurred between the state police and farmers here.

In 1983, a tornado ripped through Boonville.

In 2004, Ethan Allen Interiors, a major employer in the village, closed down leaving many residents looking for work.

Boonville is also host to the Hulbert House, Erwin Library, Dodge Pratt House, and many other locally owned businesses.

According to the [[United States Census Bureau]], the village has a total area of 1.8&nbsp;[[square mile]]s (4.6&nbsp;[[km²]]).None of the area is covered with water.

Boonville is at the convergence of [[New York State Route 12|NYS Route 12]], [[New York State Route 12D|NYS Route 12D]], [[New York State Route 46|NYS Route 46 ]], and [[New York State Route 294|NYS Route 294]].

The geographic region is called the [[Tug Hill Plateau]].

==Demographics==
As of the [[census]]{{GR|2}} of 2000, there were 2,138 people, 877 households, and 537 families residing in the village. The [[population density]] was 1,202.0 people per square mile (463.8/km²). There were 960 housing units at an average density of 539.7/sq&nbsp;mi (208.2/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 99.49% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 0.05% [[African American (U.S. Census)|Black]] or [[Race (United States Census)|African American]], 0.19% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 0.05% [[Pacific Islander (U.S. Census)|Pacific Islander]], and 0.23% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 0.23% of the population.

There were 877 households out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 45.6% were [[Marriage|married couples]] living together, 11.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 38.7% were non-families. 33.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 18.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.26 and the average family size was 2.86.

In the village the population was spread out with 22.4% under the age of 18, 6.0% from 18 to 24, 26.1% from 25 to 44, 22.0% from 45 to 64, and 23.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 87.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 79.4 males.

The median income for a household in the village was $29,013, and the median income for a family was $36,050. Males had a median income of $28,583 versus $22,219 for females. The [[per capita income]] for the village was $16,870. About 8.8% of families and 12.0% of the population were below the [[poverty line]], including 12.1% of those under age 18 and 10.6% of those age 65 or over.
