Affection is the debut album by English pop / soul singer Lisa Stansfield, released in the UK, in November 1989, for BMG/Arista label. Entirely written by her husband and musical collaborator Ian Devaney, former school mate Andy Morris (who left her band in 1993), and Lisa herself, the record was widely hailed as one of the finest debut albums ever by a British soul artist, going straight to number two in the UK Albums Chart.

The long playing, with its combination of pop / soul / dance music, went on to sell almost 5 million copies worldwide, confirming the arrival of a major new star. It was released in multiple editions, in different countries and years, with alternative track listings, including five hit singles: "This Is the Right Time" (which does not feature on the original vinyl LP release), "All Around the World", "Live Together", "What Did I Do to You?" (which came out as a 12" EP) and was a #25 UK hit, and "You Can't Deny It" (not released in the UK) - plus a sixth one, namely "People Hold On" (her very first major hit, performed with Coldcut, also in 1989, but only contained in the 2003 remastered compact disc edition). The original 1989 Arista Records United States version features noticeably refined mixes of several of the songs: including "What Did I Do To You?", "You Can't Deny It", and "Just the Way You Want It".

"All Around The World", which hit the Number 1 spot on the UK Singles Chart, and Number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 Pop Chart in the USA, was also the first song by a white female artist to ever reach the top of the U.S. R&B Chart. "You Can't Deny It", which was only released in the USA, also topped this latter chart.

The "What Did I Do to You?" EP
"What Did I Do to You?", the lower-charting of the many singles taken from the hit album, was actually released as a 12" EP, including three previously unreleased songs too: "My Apple Heart", "Lay Me Down" and "Something's Happenin'", all of them then added to the 2003 remastered CD edition, also containing the single mix of People Hold On with Coldcut (as well as the lyrics to all 17 songs - the original 1989 album release was the only Lisa Stansfield record not including any lyrics).
