THIS IS MY SCHECTER STORY IT MAY NOT BE THE MOST EXCITING OF THEM ALL AND MAY EVEN SOUND CONTRITE TO SOME BUT IT DEFINATETLY GRAB EVERYONES WHO READS IT ATTENTION.

TWO SUMMERS AGO I WAS OUT SHOPPING FOR A NEW GUITAR AND STOPPED AT THE GUITAR CENTER IN ROSEVILLE TO CHECK OUT THE WALLS FOR ANYTHING THAT GRABBED MY EYE. AS I WAS SCOPING FOR THAT UNDISCOVERED DIAMOND IN THE ROUGH AND MY 4 & 1/2 YR. OLD DAUGHTER WAS AMUSING HERSELF TURNING DIALS ON A PROCESSOR SOME POOR SAP WAS TRYING TO GET THE PERFECT TONE FROM (HE COULD'NT FIGURE OUT WHY HIS SETTINGS WERE ALL OVER THE PLACE). IT DIDN'T TAKE LONG TO FIND A GEM THAT I HAD BEEN LUSTING AFTER FOR YEARS. THERE IT WAS, AN ICON OF TONAL PERFECTION SHINING ABOVE ALL ELSE!OR AT LEAST WHAT I THOUGHT TO BE AT THAT TIME. A MINT PRS DRAGON HANGING IN THE MIDST OF ALL OF THE MAINSTAYS AND MIDLINE PRODO'S THAT SEAMED TO PERMEATE EVERY SHOP THAT I HAVE EVER BEEN IN. QUICKLY I TOOK IT OFF THE WALL, PLUGGED IT IN TURNED IT UP And FORGOT ABOUT THE WORLD AROUND ME! HEAVEN, ELECTRICAL ECSTASY TONE TONE AND MORE RICH FULL BEAUTIFUL TONE ENVELOLPING ME. THAT IS UNTIL I HAPPENED TO CACTH A GLIMPSE OF SYDNEY PICK SOMETHING UP AND WAS BRINGING IT TO ME. MORE LIKE RUNNING INTO THE FLOOR THAN BRINGING ME A GUITAR. I SPUN AROUND JUST AS SHE LOST HER GRIP AND FELL DOWN. SURREAL IS THE ONLY DESCRIPTION I CAN COME UP WITH HERE.

AS SYDNEY WAS FALLING SHE WAS ALSO TELLING ME TO PLAY THE ONE SHE WAS CARRYING BECUZ IT IN HER WORDS "IT'S PRETTY DADDY." I REACHED OUT GRABBED SYD, STOPPING HER FROM SMASHING INTO A RACK FULL OF LOOSE GEAR WITH A GUARENTEED SPLITTING HEADACHE. TO SAY THE LEAST. WHILE AT THE SAME TIME SAVING THE GUITAR SHE HAD FROM EL KABONG LAND. I COMPLETELY FORGOT ABOUT THE DRAGON AND ITS FATE AS TO TAKE THE RESCUED AXE'S PLACE ON THE SCRATCH TRACK.

AS I LOOKED AROUND FULLY EXPECTING TO BE USHERED OUT THE DOOR IN NO TIME. I COME FACE TO FACE WITH THE STORE MGR. BEFORE I COULD SAY A WORD HE ASKED IF I WOULD LIKE TO PLUG IN & CHECK OUT THE "PRETTY" SHREDDER. DUMBFOUNDED I MUMMBLED SURE/ HE THEN LEAD US BACK TO A SOUND ROOM AND PROCEEDED TO SAY TO TURN UP AS LOUD & PLAY AS LONG AS I WANTED TO.

APPARRENTLY HE WITNESSED & HEARD THE WHOLE FIASCO OF THE GUITAR DOWNPOUR.

WE MUST HAVE STAYED THERE PLAYING THIS PIECE OF DESTINY FOR ANOTHER THREE HOURS OR SO BEFORE REALIZING HOW TIME HAD PASSED, NOW BEING WHEN TO HANG IT UP SO WE COULD PICK UP HER BROTHER & MY WIFE BEFORE HEADING TO THE HOMESTEAD.

A SHORT FEW MONTHS LATER MY BABY GIRL GOT SICK, WAS HOSPITALIZED & ALL I COULD THINK OF HER.I DIDNT GO HOME, GO TO WORK,OR EVEN SLEEP. I KNEW SOMETHING TERRIBLE HAD GOTTEN A HOLD OF MY 'BOO' AND DIDN'T WANT TO LET GO. SHE HAD SO MUCH PAIN AND THERE WAS NOTHING I COULD DO. WHAT KIND OF OF DADDY WAS I? HER WHOLE LIFE I TOLD THAT I WOULD NEVER LET ANYTHING EVER HARM HER. AND HERE IT WAS PICKING A FIGHT, STARTING A WAR INSIDE OF MY LITTLE GIRL. A SPECTACTOR I BECAME RELEGATED TO THE SIDELINES TO WATCH HER BEING DECIMATED.I FAILED! I FAILED WHEN IT COUNTED MOST! I COULD DO NOTHING TO STOP IT! NOTHING AT ALL BUT TELL HER I LOVE HER.

SHE DIED 5 WEEKS LATER. EVEN AFTER BEING RELEASED FROM THE HOSPITAL WITH EXPECTATIONS OF FULL RECOVERY. SHE DIED.DEVASTAED!!!!!!!!!FORGOT ABOUT EVERYTHING AND EVERYONE EXCEPT HER. BURYING MYSELF DEEP INSIDE SO NOTHING COULD REACH ME AGAIN, DIDN'T WANT TO FEEL ANYTHING ANYMORE.

COULDN'T BE TRUE, I COULDN'T GET THAT LUCKY TO FIND THE ONLY ONE IN THE TWIN CITIES AT THE TIME WITHOUT EVEN TRYING. BUT IT WAS. AS I WALKED THROUGH THE DOOR OF CAPITOL GUITARS IT WAS LYING ON THE COUNTER WITH THE FINISHING PREP BEING FINALIZED.

BILLY SAID HELLO TO ME A COUPLE OF TIMES CUZ I WAS COULDNT BELIEVE IT.I TOLD HIM WHO I WAS AND WHY THIS PARTICULAR PIECE WAS THE ONE. HE RESPONDED WITH "HEY MAN, I KNOW THE OWNER, I CAN GET YOU A SWEET DEAL" A MAN NAMED ERIC HANDED ME MY DESTINED HARDWIRE HARDWARE IN THE GUISSE OF A CS-1 CLASSIC WITH GOLD HARDWARE AND ABALONE,MOTHER OF PEARL INLAY.

TURNED OUT HE DID GET ME A SWEET DEAL. THESE GUYS ARE THE OWNERS. LITTLE DID THEY KNOW HOW SWEET IT WAS. :I think in general this article is poorly written and reads like a fourth grade paper, especially when it gets to the part about the Texan investors. I edited it for readability on Saturday, but my edit only showed up temporarily (?!?!?!??!!). I'm going to redo it. can edits be rejected?! ::Are you the editor who edited the article anomously? I read through the edits you made and honestly you didn't do much better. Also, even though you said you didn't delete any information, you did. I didn't delete your edits however, because some were good. I did reword some of your edits because when you reworded some of the sentences they lost their original meaning. Also don't reorganize the article because its supposed to be chronological. I personally don't think the article reads like a fourth grader wrote it, you should have seen the article a while back, it was bad. In the mid '90s, Schecter had a line called California Customs. A Google search suggests most were from 1996(?). AFAIK, these were copies of Fender Strats, Teles and Jazz basses. I own a '96 Califirnia Custom Tele with Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounders, which I think were stock on all California Customs. This page reads like a marketing brochure for the company. I believe it needs the following:

  • I question the value of such extensive lists of products and users of the guitars. I suggest that the list of users be reduced to only those with a verifiable source.
  • The founder of the company was Dave Schecter, for whom the company was named, and who is recognized in several books about guitars as an innovative designer. He sold the company in the early 1980s, and I believe it has subsequently changed hands. The incorrect information should be removed, and replaced with citable info. Just because you believe that he's "embryonically" attached to his strats doesn't mean that he didn't ever touch another guitar, even if it was for a short period of time.
