The voiceless apicoalveolar fricative,[s̺], is a fricative which is articulated with the tip of the tongue (apex) against the alveolar ridge. It is the sibilant found in several dialects of European Spanish, Spanish of Antioquia, Colombia, Catalan, Greek, and Basque.

Occurence

  • Basque: bost [bos̺t], "five"
  • Catalan: sis [s̺is̺], "six"
  • Spanish (peninsular; Antioquia, Colombia): dos [dos̺], "two"
