Postal arrangements

The postcode district is part of the LONDON post town.[1] Sectors 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 are in use.[1] There are no dependent localities used in the postcode district.[1] The numbered district was created in 1917 and was originally designated as the Brixton postal district.[2] Before then it had been included in the SE postal district and initially formed part of the abandoned S postal distict.[3] There has been no significant recoding of the district from 1990 to 2007.[4] There are Post Office branches in the district on Acre Lane, Brixton Hill, Elm Park, Streatham Hill, Streatham Place and Tulse Hill.[5]

Demography

The postcode district has a population of 46,081 in 21,366 residential properties and the greatest number (72.6%) of the properties are flats.[6] The population density is very high, at 117.5 people per square kilometre. The average age of residents is 31.[6]

Coverage

The district is entirely within the London Borough of Lambeth. It includes Streatham Hill and the southern part of Brixton.
