WASR-series rifles

Wasr-10 GP

The WASR series are a Romanian AK variant using a US made receiver unlike the SAR series. Both are Romanian variants of the Avtomat Kalashnikov, or Автомат Калашникова series of rifles originally from Russia.
AKM = WASR-10 7.62x39
AK-74 = WASR-2 5.45x39
AK-101 = WASR-3 5.56x45 NATO

These Rifles are made with stamped receivers that were originally intended for Single-Stack magazines. The rifles feature chrome-lined barrels and wood furniture. These rifles are imported under Century Arms Intl., where they are modified to be sold. It is there, that they dremel the magazine wells and install Tapco compliance parts including Gas pistons, Fire control Groups (I.E.: trigger), and pistol grips.

This line of rifles usually come with a Side-Mount scope rail unless it was manually removed.

The rifles in general are considered as "bottom of the barrel" when compared to Bulgarian/Yugoslavian variants, but the rifles are still as reliable when they are functional (I.E.: some rifles have had issues with gas pistons, FCG's, and wobbly magazines). The rifles are VERY customizable with hundreds of aftermarket furniture, optics, and the list is endless of opportunities with WASR's

WASR-10

The WASR-10 is a post-ban Romanian version of the venerable AKM assault rifle. Factory-original rifles only support single-stack, low-capacity magazines (ten rounds), but are frequently modified to take double-stack, regular-capacity magazines (thirty rounds or more). Pistol grip and thumbhole stocks are both commonly found.

They are well-known for their low cost, especially when compared to the original Russian firearm.

GP WASR-10

After the sun-set of the so-called "assault weapons ban" importers were able to legally equip the WASR-10's with the compensators, bayonet lugs, and folding stocks. Thus making the GP-WASR-10 (with GP standing for General Purpose). One disadvantage of this rifle is that machining burrs on the magazine-well causes some magazines to fit tightly. Some advantages of this rifle are the reliability, cheap ammunition and availability of aftermarket parts.[1]

GP WASR-10/63

In 2007 Romarm Sa/Cugir had done extensive updating of their arms factory in Romania, their the new modernized version of the WASR series rifle, the GP WASR-10/63, has new features including a single hook G2 Tapco Fire Control Group with no trigger slap and smooth 3lb pull (This was done in response of complaints about trigger slap on previous rifles made by Sa/Cugir such as the SAR-1 SAR-2 SAR-3 and Wasr's 10,2 and 3) GP WASR-10/63 also comes with 14x1mm left hand threaded muzzle and slant style muzzle brake. The new General Purpose WASR-10/63 is also inscribed with a newer laser dot pattern instead of stamped with steel punches. These new WASR-10/63's are made to military-spec and have fully heat treated receivers made of high grade steel. The rifles are known to be dramatically more accurate with 2" groups at 100 to 220 yards. However the threaded muzzle and ammo capacity of this rifle is illegal in several states such as NY,MA,CA etc, etc. Also interesting.. the original Romanian AKM-clone was designated Pistol Mitraliera /63 (AIM) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AIM_%28rifle%29. These are newly imported Romanian military grade quality AKM-clones.

WASR-22

Great starter AK for kids or a good shooter for persons who can't handle a 7.62x39 or AK-74. Shoots a .22 round and usually ships with two 10 round magazines. The price for the WASR-22 is around $230.00. WASR 22 images

WASR-2

Basically A WASR-10 chambered in 5.45x39 and usually does not come with any accessories (muzzle brake, Bayonett) especially if its coming straight from Century [2]

Because it is not chambered in 7.62x39, the WASR 2 is legal in Connecticut despite the state's Assault Weapons Ban. Despite this, most dealers do not sell the WASR-2. This weapon also sometimes has the magazine latch filled down too far thus jamming the gun. No threaded muzzle.

WASR-3

The Commercial export version chambered in 5.56x45 NATO or .223 REM. Usually comes in the same configuration as the WASR-2 sometimes has the magazine latch filled down too far thus jamming the gun. No threaded muzzle. [3]
